Description:

Responsible for handling freight claims filed by the owner of the goods. Investigate and settle claims in accordance with carrier liability rules, regulations, and contracts. Initiate payments, settlements or denials filed by Claimants within the designated level of authority.

Requirements for Job:

• Job related experience in logistics, freight operations and/or OS&D.
• Exceptional talent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Mainframe Computer Systems.
• Skillful in mathematics.
• Possess effective writing/grammar skills.
• Ability to examine/analyze invoices in detail.
• Have proficient problem-solving experience.
• Exemplary level of customer service, both internal & external.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Process and request all documents relating to each loss & damage claim received from customer.
• Coordinate with sales and terminal personnel to secure information and/or documentation regarding carrier liability.
• Enforce company policy and comply with the fundamentals of loss & damage claims.
• Communicate updates on freight claims to Claimant when requested.
• Pay, decline, or offer a compromise settlement on loss & damage claims.
• Explain to Claimants in writing and, if necessary, by telephone, the carrier’s position.
• Organize/Retrieve and manage a claims file inventory.
• Utilize all tools such as online screens, mainframe computer generated reports, policy/procedures manuals and in house training to mitigate claim payments.
• Review, interpret and understand basic contractual language and tariffs.
• Identify and communicate reoccurring operations failures to management when applicable.
• Ensure timely and effective claims resolution.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferences:

• Knowledge of hazardous material regulations.
• Understanding of the NMFC/National Motor Freight Classification.
